Installing PyRx

Installing PyRx

There are paid versions of PyRx and free versions of PyRx. This page will discuss installation of the free versions on Mac or Microsoft Windows. For the installation of the paid versions, see http://pyrx.sourceforge.net/downloads.

The installation process for the free version (0.8) begins by downloading the appropriate install kit from From http://sourceforge.net/projects/pyrx/files/0.8/ where you should see

Installing PyRx on a Mac

Download PyRx-0.8.dmg, wait for the download to complete and then double click the dmg file. The window you should see would be:

Double click the open cardboard box icon. That may bring up the installer, but depending on your security settings, instead you may see:
In that case, you need to open the Security & Privacy panel in the top row of the System Preferences under the apple menu:

When you click on the "Open Anyway" button, you should get to see the installer, but overlaid with a waring that "This package will run a program to determine of the software can be installed":
When you click on "Continue", the installer should finally be enabled:
You should accept all the defaults in sequence:
When you are done, you should find a copy of PyRx in your Applications folder.

Installing PyRx under Windows

Download PyRx-0.8-Setup.exe, wait for the download to complete and then double click the exe file. There are many different versions of Microsoft Windows in use and many different browsers, so the sequence of screens you will see during the download and starting of the exe are likely to vary from the following:

You may be asked if you really want to save this file on your computer (you do).

You may get a progress indicator for the download.
Eventally you should be able to see that a 91 megabyte file has been downloaded.
When you double click it, you are likely to be asked if you reall want to run the installed (you do).
Then the system is likey to complain about the publisher of the software (it is OK).
Finally the installer intself should start. Click "Next".
The install should start.
When it is done, you should click "Finish".
Which should result in an icon for starting PyRx on your desktop.
